The so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/C3-Pflanze\">C<sub>3<\/sub>-plants<\/a> (<strong> most plants of the middle latitudes, useful plants like e.g.B. wheat, rye or rice<\/strong>) perform different compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/C4-Pflanze\">C<sub>4<\/sub>-plants<\/a> (typically <strong>grasses, crops such as corn, sugar cane or millet<\/strong>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/klima-fakten.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Photosynthese_CO2-Konzentration.svg_-1024x747.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-691\" width=\"584\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/klima-fakten.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Photosynthese_CO2-Konzentration.svg_.png 1024w, https:\/\/klima-fakten.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Photosynthese_CO2-Konzentration.svg_-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/klima-fakten.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Photosynthese_CO2-Konzentration.svg_-768x560.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><figcaption>dependence of CO<sub>2<\/sub>dependence of CO<sub>2<\/sub>-concentration <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> This <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kohlenstoffdioxid-D%C3%BCngung\">diagram<\/a> shows that <strong>plants can better absorb CO<\/strong><sub><strong>2<\/strong><\/sub><strong> the higher their concentration in the air is<\/strong>. For C<sub>4<\/sub> plants, the optimal absorption capacity is already almost reached at the &#8212; current &#8212; CO<sub>2<\/sub> concentration of about 400 ppm, while C<sub>3<\/sub> plants &#8222;feel better&#8220; at much higher concentrations of 800-1000 ppm. Therefore, greenhouses are enriched with CO<sub>2<\/sub> to improve plant growth. In particular, parts of the earth&#8217;s arid regions have become greener<\/strong>. This can be explained by the fact that the openings of the leaves to the inlet of CO<sub>2<\/sub> (<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stoma_(Botany)\">Stomata<\/a>) are the same as the openings through which the water evaporates. The more CO<sub>2<\/sub> is present, the less stomata have to be opened and the plant becomes more resistant to drought.  <br>This film from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/feature\/goddard\/2016\/carbon-dioxide-fertilization-greening-earth\">NASA publication from the year 2016<\/a> shows the essential connections briefly and vividly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rising CO2 Levels Greening Earth\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zOwHT8yS1XI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>An additional reason for the increased greening in Asia is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41893-019-0220-7\"><strong>Intensification of agriculture and forestry<\/strong><\/a>, mainly in China and India, as has been the case for some time in Europe.  Additional fertilization and irrigation produce several harvests per year, which together with the increase in growth due to CO<sub>2<\/sub> contributes significantly to the food security of the world&#8217;s population &#8212; <strong>Since 2000, agricultural yields have increased by more than 35% in India and China without an increase in the area used for agriculture<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>One of the founders of Greenpeace, Dr. Patrick Moore<\/strong>, who left the organisation because of its one-sided political orientation, <strong>explains the positive significance of CO<\/strong><sub><strong>2<\/strong><\/sub> in the context of the current climate debate <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CO2 is &#039;good&#039; | Energy Live News\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NzVMSxszudo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Block_environmental_protection\">Greening and environmental protection<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In order not to be misunderstood &#8211; the objectively correct and consequently extraordinarily optimistic perspectives for nature, which result from the increase of CO<sub>2<\/sub> in the atmosphere, by no means mean that with regard to the protection of the environment and the preservation of creation &#8222;everything is fine&#8220; on our planet earth.  <br><strong>The long known problems such as monocultures, deforestation, slash-and-burn, biodiversity, urban sprawl, water pollution, air pollution,  etc. are still acute and require responsible and rapid action. <\/strong><br><strong>Recent events indicate particular urgency for  responsible flood prevention and forest fuel load management<\/strong>.
